How The Fuck Do We Sposta Keep Peace?

It pains me today to officially retire as a musician and producer. Certain recent output from my hometown of Detroit (see above) has taken this rap game to a level never before imagined or even considered in the murky light of my dreams. I just can't find the courage to even attempt to keep going. I won't lie to you all anymore. I'll never be this good, so I'm just gonna bow out as gracefully as possible. Thanks for the years of support. I'm sorry I couldn't be more to you.
Sincerely,
Fred Thomas

Fred,

been spending a fair portion of the night reading your blog and d/ling City Center jams.

I am simultaneously pleased & bummed.

Pleased because these jams are wonderful slices of sounds I don't normally dive after - context is always important, I suppose (well, no I don't suppose - I really do believe that, but that's a conversation for another day).

Bummed because I had to work during the Stone gig and am now certain that I must attend the next performance.

We are also mos def going to get some sort of show happening together.

Nice job - way to make a homie proud! See you soon at the J-O-B.

Three cheers,
-Mikey.

Hi Fred,
If you think poor black people are so funny maybe you should move back to Detroit!

Hey Paul!
You make a lot of really sharp assumptions and kind of lame insinuations with that sentence. I do find this video incredibly funny because the song is really amazing in a way that's close to unlistenable and also because the performance is so uncomfortable and intense to watch. My post was sarcastic, but not in a mean-spirited way, and it focused only on the humorous idea that this song (which is pretty rough) would be so astonishing that I'd have to quit music cause I could never do better than it. I don't think poor black people, poor people, black people or any people are inherently funny, nor do I take any stance of looking down on anyone by posting this video. If you took it that way, I don't understand how and I think you need to reconsider it. Is it somehow granted that I'm making fun of black people by thinking this video is funny? There is an entire culture of middle class white kids who equidistantly obsess over black culture and at the same time think it's funny or want to mock it, but that's not what you're seeing here. I think it's shortsighted and irresponsible of you to make that mistake and call me out on it without having much of a leg to stand on. I'm clearly obsessed with music and I'm not interested in having a conversation defending myself about some racist viewpoint that I don't believe in and you're putting on me. I hope this clears some misconceptions up for you, and if you'd like to actually talk to me about this, please contact me directly at westsideaudio (at) Gmail (dot) com. Thanks a lot,
Fred Thomas
